Step by step
- Go to chatgpt.com or install the official ‘ChatGPT’ app by OpenAI (watch out for copycat apps).
- Click Sign up at the top right.
- Choose how to continue: with Google, Apple, Microsoft, your phone number or your email address.
- Chose email? Pick a strong password and open the confirmation email or enter the code you receive.
- Enter your name and date of birth. You must be at least 13; under 18 you need a parent's permission.
- Done: type your first question in the box at the bottom.
🔒 Privacy tips
- Go to Settings → Data controls and switch off ‘Improve the model for everyone’ if you don't want your chats used for training.
- Use a Temporary chat for sensitive questions: it doesn't appear in your history.
- Never share passwords, ID numbers, medical or bank details.
- Turn on two-step verification in Settings → Security.
💶 Free or paid?
Free: ChatGPT can be used for free, with limits on the number of messages and the most powerful features. Paid: ChatGPT Go (about €8/month), Plus (about €23/month) and Pro for heavy users. Belgian prices incl. VAT as listed in October 2026; always check chatgpt.com/pricing.
